The historic old town area, which sits on a peninsula embraced on two sides by the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, is a pleasure to explore on foot or by bicycle, its UNESCO-recognized heritage buildings home to an array of French-style cafés, boutique shopping, fine dining restaurants, lively local markets and cultural museums. Outside the heritage area, the surrounding environment is home to numerous outdoor activities.

In depth

LIVING

The resort offers 23 spacious accommodations including four deluxe rooms, four specialty suites, three riverside villas, six pool villas and six luxury tents. Each of the resort’s guest housings is bordered by riverbank. The 75-square-meter luxury tented villas include their own private dining areas and wrap-around decks. Lao tradition and French colonial style are sensitively woven throughout the design and architecture, including the use of indigenous materials and locally inspired artwork.

Rooms and suites are individually -styled and carefully situated close to the pool, bar and lobby. Villas are immersed in a natural setting with unique décor and original artifacts, creating a French-Indochine ambiance from a bygone age. Hilltop Tents are nestled along a secluded jungle hillside, featuring ethnic designs from local hill tribes and breathtaking mountain views. All rooms, suites, villas and tents come with a designer bed with frette linens, high-speed Internet access, a fully stocked personal bar and Nespresso coffee machine.

DINING

The Great House takes strong influence from Laotian regional specialties, the menu truly embraces local culture. Our food and beverage program support the local community through a ‘farm-to-the table’ dining concept that emphasizes locally sourced and seasonal foods. This concept enables us to create a restaurant immersed in local identity. With no pre-defined menu, our chef works with local farmers, visits the markets in the area and prepares a daily, changing menu according to the available ingredients. A wonderful organic garden at the property will provide herbs and produce for much of our menu.

The Elephant Bridge Bar is your destination for relaxation and refreshment. Although not used by elephants today, this wonderful wooden bridge—a nod to the area’s wild past—provides Rosewood Luang Prabang guests with a highly unique place to enjoy classic cocktails accompanied by traditional Laotian bar snacks. Interested in trying something different? Order one of our drinks with a twist, which are made using local herbs and spices grown in our own organic garden.

THE SPA

Relaxation and solitude reach new heights at Sense, A Rosewood Spa. Overlooking the fresh running streams of the valley, this sylvan mountain sanctuary embodies the magic of Laos. Where connections to the earth’s elements are profound and natural healing practices transcend the ages.

Drawing on locally harvested botanicals and other regional ingredients, the spa offers a range of unforgettable Laotian therapies designed to cleanse, replenish and balance the body, mind and soul. Discover the power of traditional healing. Several of the spa’s body treatments are delivered by a local Hmong practitioner who employs ancient techniques and herbs sourced from Luang Prabang’s forests to cleanse, restore and revitalize. Centuries-old Laotian herbal remedies tap the healing qualities of nature’s bounty and hillside treatment tents offer inspirational mountain views over lush foliage and tranquil streams

The oval-shaped pool is in the center of the property, next to the natural waterfall on a large open space behind The Great House. Here we also have sun beds and tent roofed cabanas with large day beds to enjoy the view and relax to the sound of the water flowing by. With sumptuous Laotian cuisine and locally-inspired cocktails just a waiter away, the pool makes the perfect place for guests to cool off after treks and excursions in the beautiful, if raw, wild nature that surrounds the property.
