The Jahan, Mekong River Cruise

Category: Luxury River Cruise
Rating: 5 Star Luxury Cruise
Location: Mekong River, Viet Nam & Cambodia

Plying the slow, swirling waters of the Mekong, The Jahan is Heritage Line’s most romantic cruise liner. Considered the brother of The Jayavarman in Heritage Line’s “family” of cruise ships, this magnificent vessel was named after the Indian emperor Shah Jahan, who ruled the Mughal Empire from 1628 to 1658. A great patron of architecture and the arts, Shah Jahan oversaw the construction of many legendary sites, including India’s dazzling Red Fort, and the famed 777 gardens of Kashmir. This cultured monarch is a fitting namesake for The Jahan, which evokes the opulent vessels of British India. No expense has been spared in the interior or exterior decorations, which showcase the talents of local woodworkers, weavers and artists.

In Depth

All 12 Superior Staterooms in bright tones with redish wall and ceiling artworks are situated on the main deck and gracefully designed – with white wood furnishings and hand painted wall to ceiling decors.

Located on the upper deck and with a total space of 30sqm, the Deluxe Staterooms are designed in a warm orange hue and filled with dark colonial furniture. Hand painted Indian ornaments underline the Indian theme.

Two Signatures are located on the main deck and two sit in the front area of the upper deck. All four have a white-crème façade topped with hand-made marvelous indigo-blue Indian patterns, borders and ornaments which give the cabin a magnificent light appearance. The large wooden four-poster king bed is accompanied by a heavy treasure chest at the foot end to store your belongings.

The Taj Suite
The Indian suite is peppered with designs and styles brought in from India. A feast for the eyes – dark wooden with camel boned inlayed chairs, tables, cabinets, side tables and vanity case. The dining lounge, the extravagant solid camel bone sofa and the large majestic wooden bed offer you the full “Shah” feeling”.

Lord Byrons Suite
The Lord Byron is – as the name suggests – our British designed suite. This cabin features a light decent mint green ambiance on the walls which are all over covered with British-Colonial paintings – all manually crafted.

The Raj of India Lounge
This classically-designed onboard boutique lounge is the perfect place to kick-back and relax with our vast array of magazines, literature, toiletries, travel items, postcards, clothes and handicrafts. With an enchanting British-Indian backdrop, you will be total immersed in the tranquil atmosphere of the Raj of India Lounge.

Viceroy Dining Hall
The Jahan’s elegant Viceroy Dining Hall is located on the Terrace Deck. Next to the bar, the Viceroy Dining Hall is spread out on the top of the ship where you can enjoy al-fresco dining. Here, you can savour lavish buffet breakfasts complete with juices and freshly brewed tea and coffee. Expect to relish exotic fruits, organic vegetables, fish and prawns as you cruise.

East India Club
The funnel bar is located on the terrace deck in between the Viceroy Dining Hall and the pool deck. It was designed to recreate a British-India feel, with a camel bone in-lay and a large lamp, replete with Sanskrit carvings, hanging down the middle of the bar.

The East India Club is the perfect place to unwind and quaff a drink whilst savoring the splendors of the setting sun over the Mekong. Delectable snacks can also be ordered here.

The Observatory is situated as well on the terrace deck. The Observatory is an elegant, tasteful and welcoming library and lounge with comfortable large sofas. It is the ideal place to “observe” life on the Mekong through the panoramic windows on the Observatory. Guests may also book this area for a private candle light dinner in the evening.

It is an idyllic setting to play board games, read and relax on specially designed Indian comfy sofas whilst munching on some fruit. We will not blame you if you feel like the Shah Jahan himself.

Apsara Spa
Soothe your aching muscles at our highly recommended Apsara Spa. Make it a romantic and relaxing experience with your partner as there are two connecting treatment rooms which are adjacent to the Observatory. You will be hypnotized by the wafting aroma of the treatment oils and the tranquil atmosphere of the spa.

Pool deck
Our pool deck boasts of the largest pool – constructed with intricate Turkish Mosaic floor tiles – on any Mekong cruise. Soak in the rays of the sun whilst lying on comfy sun beds. Then, jump into our splendid Jacuzzi and allow the bubbles to caress you.

Ever wondered how a ship is piloted? Curious about how a vessel manages to navigate the waves and glide into the vast body of water? Visit the wheelhouse and learn from our engaging captain the nuts and bolts of piloting.

Gymnasium and Steam Bath
The Jahan boasts of its own gymnasium and steam bath/sauna. You can burn all those extra calories using our modern fitness equipment. The steam room is a great way to relax all those tense muscles.
