Earlier this month the Cambodian ministries of Economy, Finance, and Tourism approved a measure that will develop and implement an Angkor Wat e-ticketing platform. The proposed platform will enable visitors to upload their head-shot for the creation of the entrance ticket, and pay directly online; a significant improvement from the current ticketing system which is almost two decades old. Once implemented, users will be able to avoid the long waiting time at the site’s physical ticket office.
The Angkor Archaeological Park, which received UNESO World Heritage status in 1992 recorded a record 2.19 million foreign visitors in 2016; a 4.63% increase compared to the previous year. A portion of the revenue from each ticket is donated to the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals.
